The Significance of Raja Raam's Coming to Maharishi Vedic City—notes on a talk by Dr. R. Keith Wallace on September 19, 2002
In 1975 Maharishi inaugurated the Age of Enlightenment. Everyone told him not to do it: it was too bold they said; he would lose people in his Movement.
Over the years Maharishi has come up with many ideas that sometimes leave us speechless when we first hear about them. They are so far from our usual understanding of life that we have a hard time comprehending why he is doing them.
In the year 2000 Maharishi gave the world a new king, His Majesty Raja Nader Raam. Now Maharishi is proposing that Maharishi Vedic City in Iowa be inaugurated as the Capital of the Global Country of World Peace and that the King and his ministers reside in Maharishi Vedic City. And again there are some people who do not understand what he is doing or why Maharishi is doing it.
Questioning the master is part of getting enlightened and Maharishi has always encouraged questions. He has always encouraged us to ask questions when we do not understand new knowledge or a new plan. Each week now he encourages the press to ask question about the Global Country of World Peace, about the Raam currency, and about the King. And each week he gives beautiful answers to these questions.
Maharishi has made it so clear in these press conferences. If you kill you go to hell. If you do good you go to heaven. I have never heard Maharishi speak quite like this to us before. Our education never teaches any of this, some religions even say that our sins will all be forgiven. Maharishi tells us that every thought and action affect all of creation.
We know we are living in the period of Kaliyuga and it seems to have a very big operating budget. We've been successfully brainwashed: Kaliyuga's definition of success is about the kind of car we drive, where we live, where we take our vacations and how frequently, what the profit margin is in our company, how large the inheritance is that we are planning for our children.
When we die do these things mean anything to God? Is any of this significant? The ONLY thing we can take with us from life to life is our consciousness… so the only thing worthwhile to is to increase our consciousness. This is all that God will evaluate from the live we are living - the evolution of our heart.
Whenever Maharishi introduces us to a new way of thinking that changes our understanding or experience of what we have known to be reality, we have to remember that he is acting – not only for today – but for the next 10,000 years. He is creating the future. What would the world be like if he didn’t take care of the future? We can’t see 10,000 years ahead, but Maharishi is taking care of mankind.
Any of you who had the opportunity to see the Vedic ceremony of coronation of His Majesty Raja Nader Raam realizes what it meant to Maharishi to charge an individual to take upon himself the role of Ram. And it is a phenomenon of immense significance for the world. Maharishi has explained that Raja Nader Raam is the greatest scientist of any age. Not only does he have a complete understanding of the human physiology and with Maharishi's guidance, a complete understanding of the Vedic Literature, but he is unique in his ability to cognize the connections between the two. Through Raja Raam’s discovery Maharishi is unfolding a new level of knowledge for the future of mankind that we can’t even conceive.
Maharishi's wish to bring Raja Raam to Maharishi Vedic City is a very good omen for our community and for our country, because whatever Maharishi does has an effect on all levels of creation —this is how cosmic intelligence functions.
Our role is to do what we can do to fulfill Maharishi's desires. Maharishi said on the Founder's Day tape: “With a little effort we will have success." Otherwise, he said, we don't know what can happen.
Maharishi is asking each one of us to make a little more effort, not to strain.
We should never think that we are giving up anything when we are asked to help with any project. We should say “thank God I am given another opportunity to raise my level of consciousness. Thank God that Maharishi still has his attention on me and has not forgotten.”
He could easily have left us to ourselves…but he keeps giving us another chance to do something good. All of these tasks are significant for our evolution. Acts of service to the Master, acts from our heart, are really the only ones God will acknowledge.
The profit that is worth measuring in this life is what we give to Maharishi. We have to take advantage of any opportunity to inspire our family, our friends, our whole community of meditators to give. We have to keep our hearts high and keep motivating ourselves and our friends.
Historically the most significant achievements of mankind have always come from a very few people. We never hear that the Saints had thousand of followers: Buddha only had 500. Christ had twelve. A small number can make big changes.
To have Raja Raam in the United States, in Fairfield, is the redeeming glory for our country. Raja Raam is a beacon of coherence. His being here will bring Maharishi’s attention here. It is up to us to bring him here. Let us take this opportunity to act quickly for the good of the US, for the good of the whole world, for ourselves.
